Lowell E. Sachnoff “Advocates in Action” Speaker Series

Lowell E. Sachnoff was a founding member of Chicago Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights in 1969, and a life-long supporter of our work to promote racial equity and economic opportunity for all.

Along with several other Chicago lawyers, Lowell helped establish the Chicago Lawyers’ Committee in 1969, in the aftermath of riots, violence, and mass arrests in response to Dr. King’s assassination, and political protest and police brutality at the 1968 Democratic National Convention. He went on to serve as chair of our Board and as a dedicated board member for many years. In 2007, Chicago Lawyers’ Committee recognized Lowell with the Edwin A. Rothschild Award for Lifetime Achievement in Civil Rights.

It was only right to name the new “Advocates in Action” speaker series led by our NextGen Leadership Council after Lowell.

We have held four speaker series events to date. Listen to the recording of our most recent one held at Thompson Coburn LLP, moderated by NextGen Member Kayla Siam, and featuring attorney on our Economic Justice program, Amy Cook. Amy spoke about our work connecting pro bono volunteer attorneys with BIPOC-led small businesses and nonprofits on the South and West sides of Chicago providing them with free legal assistance. This type of legal support helps spur economic development and ultimately helps to close the racial wealth gap in our city.
