Congratulations and Best Wished to Newly Appointed Judge Nancy Maldonado!

Chicago Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights wishes a fond farewell and a heartfelt thank-you to Nancy Maldonado, our fabulous, long-serving Board Member who, following recent Senate confirmation, takes up her position as a federal judge with the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois in September.

After graduating from Harvard College and Columbia Law School, Nancy Maldonado served as a law clerk to Judge Ruben Castillo before joining the practice of Miner, Barnhill & Galland P.C. where she handled complex civil litigation for almost twenty years. As a young attorney, she joined the Board of Chicago Lawyers’ Committee in 2005; she served as Board President in 2015, and has provided her time, energy, and wisdom to help guide and support the organization. She will be the first Hispanic woman serving as a District Court Judge in Illinois.

“It has been my honor to serve on the Board of the Chicago Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights for over 15 years. Through Chicago Lawyers’ Committee, I developed leadership skills, connected with service-oriented attorneys from firms big and small, and stayed attuned to civil rights issues in our community. I am grateful to have served the Chicagoland community through Chicago Lawyers’ Committee.”
