Chicago Lawyers’ Committee joins Jefferson Park faith leaders and community advocates in supporting affordable family housing

Today, Chicago Lawyers’ Committee joins other faith leaders and legal and community advocates in calling out and standing up to the rhetoric used by opponents of affordable family housing in Jefferson Park. Chicago Lawyers’ Committee is a recognized expert with a long history of fighting discrimination in housing.

“We oppose housing discrimination and segregation wherever it occurs, in Jefferson Park and across the Chicago metropolitan area,” said Bonnie Allen of Chicago Lawyers’ Committee. "The segregationist status quo in Jefferson Park cannot continue, and we call on our partners and all concerned community members to fight with us for diversity and inclusion.”

Representatives from Chicago Area Fair Housing Alliance, Sargent Shriver National Center on Poverty Law, Neighbors for Affordable Housing in Jefferson Park, Access Living, Chicago Housing Initiative, Friendship Presbyterian Church, Logan Square Ecumenical Alliance, St. Luke's Lutheran Church of Logan Square, and Mt. Carmel Baptist Church joined together this morning at City Hall to call on Mayor Rahm Emanuel and other elected leaders to support the creation of affordable, accessible, and integrated housing across Chicago.
