Chi Hack Night: Using Data to Protect Voting Rights in 2020

  • Braintree 222 W Merchandise Mart Plz 8th Floor Chicago IL (map)

The right to vote is fundamental to a healthy democracy. The Voting Rights Project works to prevent, reduce, and eliminate barriers to voting and civic participation, especially in communities of color and low-income communities, to ensure that each eligible citizen is able to cast a ballot and make her voice heard.

Ami Gandhi, an attorney and the Director of Voting Rights and Civic Empowerment at Chicago Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights, will present on the work she does in statewide voter protection, partnering with community members in the criminal justice system to expand voter access and advocating for communities of color during Illinois redistricting.

She will show data visualizations of problems at the polls to inform their non-partisan voter protection work during every election and analysis of hyperlocal demographic data to identify and address injustice in redistricting in Chicago and Illinois.

ASL This event will have an American Sign Language interpreter.

Food Food and drinks will be provided. We encourage attendees to bring their own water bottles to reduce waste.

Civic hacking After the presentation, we will break out into learning and working groups until 9:30pm.
