Recognizing the vital role of community-based organizations, the CEDLP provides pro bono legal assistance in the areas of corporate, tax, real estate, zoning and finance law through its two nonprofit programs, the Nonprofit Support Program, and the Nonprofit Legal Assessment Program.
Does your organization qualify for assistance?
- Its funds are insufficient to hire private counsel.
- The organization is accountable to the community either through organizational membership or board representation;
- The proposed project is designed to revitalize the neighborhood and increase community control;
- The organization is a not for profit tax exempt organization or an organization seeking assistance to obtain recognition of tax exemption from the Internal Revenue Service;
- The organization is not seeking legal representation for a dispute, litigation or matters that might reasonably lead to litigation;
- And the organization is engaged in activities that serve low-income populations or communities.
The Nonprofit Support Program provides organizations with legal assistance on a project specific basis; the Nonprofit Legal Assessment Program provides legal analysis, representation and technical assistance to established nonprofit organizations in the Chicago area.
