The Chicago Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights has released the following statement on the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals decision in CLCCRUL v. craigslist.

On Feb 12 , CLCCRUL will train volunteer lawyers for the federal court Settlement Assistance Program. Chief Judge James Holdeman, Presiding Magistrate Judge Morton Denlow, and Magistrate Judge Nan Nolan will conduct the training, along with Professor Robert Burns of Northwestern University.

The Chicago Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights is pleased to report that the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) issued a decision on December 21, 2007 awarding a total of $55,394 against a landlord who posted a "no kids" sign at his Chicago three-flat building. The federal Fair Housing Act prohibits discrimination against families with children in the rental of housing.

After the Chicago Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Fair Housing Project identified two potentially discriminatory ads for the same property posted to the craigslist website, HUD charged the property owner with violating the federal Fair Housing Act.

On November 8, the City of Chicago and CEDLP will present a training for attorneys interested in representing people who are buying homes owned by the Chicago Community Land Trust. The training will introduce attorneys to the Chicago Community Land Trust, the City of Chicago's new initiative to preserve affordable housing, and explain the closing process.
