A consent decree settles Chicago Lawyers' Committee v. City of Chicago, filed in 1976 when the Committee discovered that the defendants had engaged in covert activities and data collection, including surveillance of attorneys, the use of undercover agents, and reporting on confidential attorney-client conversations

The Committee begins working on projects to address discrimination against people with disabilities. Projects are developed in the virtually untested areas of housing and public accommodations, as well as employment, to establish strong standards for the new Illinois Human Rights Act prohibitions
