CLC Defends Minority Residents of Cairo, IL
The Committee returns to Cairo to establish the Alexander County Defenders Project since no full-time public defender is available for indigent defendants. Because of the presence of an independent and aggressive defender, the State's Attorney dismisses 75% of the cases rather than proceeding to trial.

CLC Challenges Use of Tests to Categorize “Educationally Mentally Handicapped” Children
In P.A.S.E. v. Chicago Board of Education, the Committee challenges the Board's use of discriminatory tests that result in the disproportionate placement of minority children in Educationally Mentally Handicapped classes.
